Under the bonnet

The adoption of an all aluminum 6.23 literV8 engine replacing the straight six of the Cloud I/S1 was the most remarkable innovation when Rolls Royce publicized the advent of their new model Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II in 1959. It is well worth noting that this engine - developed during the 1950s - is still performing under the bonnet of Rolls Royce's modern models of the 90s though having been subject to the company's established policy of seeking improvements in design and manufacture. In the U.S.A. the Silver Cloud II was tremendously successful and the slogan coined by David Ogilvy's advertising agency "At 60 mph the loudest noise in this new Rolls Royce comes from the electric clock" became a classic of its own. As regards to coachwork, there were but negligible changes to the familiar standard steel bodywork when compared to that of the Silver Cloud I.

The Silver spur was designed as a modern personal limousine keeping all of the heritage and luxury expected in a Rolls Royce but in a sleek and modern form. This was the last Rolls Royce built by Rolls Royce of Crewe and one of only 507 built. Princess Diana's royal limousine was the Silver Spur, by choice, because of it's modern luxury blended with timeless craftsmanship. She was photographed with it on many occasions. Our Spur is finished in the rarest, 1 of 3 with "Silica" exterior over Parchment leather interior. Accompanied by magnificent inlaid burled walnut, Wilton wool carpet with lamb's wool mouton overlays, and a cashmere headliner, no detail was overlooked.
